Vegetarian Don’t Ask Me About My Protein

Vegetarians are often asked where they get their protein after they stop eating meat. The truth is there is plenty of protein sources for vegetarians and there is no need to eat meat. Animal products such as dairy, meat, and eggs are good sources of protein that can also be high in saturated fat and cholesterol.

Vegetarian sources for protein include green peas, quinoa, nuts, beans, and leafy greens. I love black beans and chickpeas and use them in a lot of dishes. I also include as many leafy greens as possible, like spinach which I love.  Don’t Ask Me About My Protein and I Won’t Ask About Your Cholesterol gifts are the response vegetarians often get from those who don’t understand or never knew that you can eat and live healthy without eating meat. Through personal experience, I’ve found that many people don’t know that the majority of their high fat and cholesterol come from eating animal flesh.

Celebrate being vegetarian with a little humor. Eat well and laugh well!
