- Cleanser or soap
- Moisturizing lotion
- Gel Polish
DIY Manicure Steps
Remove Nail Polish
First of all, you need to remove the old layer of nail polish carefully. To remove the nail polish dip a cotton ball into polish remover and hold it on the polished nails for a couple of seconds, this will dissolve the solution. Now wipe it off in an outer direction. In this way your cuticles will remain clean.
Wash Your Hand
Then wash your hands with lukewarm water and use a quality moisturizing soap or facial cleanser. A gentle facial scrub would work wonders on rough hands. Then dry your hands with a soft towel.
Cut and Shape Nails
When it comes to nail length, try to keep it a short or medium and oval shape. Long nails are great too, but it also depends on how good you feel with them. Cut your nails a little longer than then the desired length. Because when you file them then will have the length what you need. Use good quality nail filer for this process. Always make sure to stay away from metallic files as they can hurt your nails. Start filing from the outside corners to the tips. Avoid going back and forth. It would just make your nails look unbalanced.
Wash and Clean Nails
Now take a bowl of lukewarm water by adding 1 tbsp. olive oil and soak your hands in it. This combination would soften the cuticles and hands. Let them soak about 10 minutes. Then clean your nails by using a nail brush.
Apply Moisturizer
After cleaning is complete, apply cuticle cream to the cuticles. It would be best if you massaged the whole hand with moisturizing lotion in circular motions. The massage will also increase blood flow.
Push back Cuticles
Use the cuticles pusher and gently push back the skin around nails. Never cut the cuticles because this can cause infection especially if you are diabetic. Use a nail trimmer to cut dangling nails.
Apply Nail Polish
Now you need to choose the color of polish for your nails. By using dark colors your nails can look shorter but are challenging to maintain daily. If you think you will not get enough time to touch up, a lighter shade would be best because it can suit to any outfit.
Applying nail polish should always start from the nail bed. After applying each coat wait at least a minute for it to be set, then start your second coat. Follow these steps regularly for a homemade manicure to keep your hands good looking and soft forever.
