Daiya Cheddar Cheese Review

I’ve seen Daiya Cheddar Cheese in the health food section of my local store many times and decided it was time to see if it would satisfy my craving for grilled cheese sandwiches. Daiya Cheddar Cheeseis priced around $6.00 for a package of 11 slices, so it’s not something I’d have every week. I’ve read several good reviews of it on other vegetarian websites and have been very curious to try it.

As a vegetarian that will one day be vegan(I just feel that I will), I keep an eye out for nondairy food items that may end up replacing dairy ingredients. I avoid eating bread most of the time so having a grilled cheese sandwich is a treat!

Daiya Cheddar Cheese Review

Daiya Cheddar Cheese slices look more like Swiss cheese with the little holes than cheddar cheese. They tend to crumble easy so be careful handling them. I used a hearty multi-grain bread and two slices of Daiya cheddar cheese.
Making a grilled cheese sandwich is pretty simple, some people butter each of the bread slices where I chose to use a bit of oil. Heat the sandwich and flip it for a few minutes.
So what do I think of Daiya Cheddar Cheese slices? Pretty dam good is what I think! I had to have several bites to get used to the cheddar tastes since I’m use to American cheese or the even worse Velveeta cheese on grilled cheese sandwiches. I loved it! I’m pretty sure you could make a grilled cheese sandwich with Daiya cheese slices and all but the cheese connoisseur would NOT know it’s dairy cheese.

Later in the evening I made grilled cheese sandwiches for my brother and niece using white bread. They both really liked the flavor and texture. In my experience using Daiyacheddar cheese slices for grilled cheese sandwiches, Daiya makes a great tasting cheese alternative! I happy to know a vegan cheese alternative is available in my area. I am liking the Daiya cheese more than Teese cheese I have tried.

Daiya Cheddar Cheese slices are worth trying if you haven’t yet, it’s certainly a brand of vegan cheese I’ll experiment with in future recipes!
